The full story

Always interested in plants and nature, Sachi majored in botany at university but was drawn into the public service where she had an interesting career as a senior executive.

Many years later, she escaped to pursue her dream....and established the Department of Garden Design (without the bureaucracy)

The Department of Garden Design takes all of Sachi's life learnings: how to operate efficiently, build relationships, collaborate and communicate, and marries them with landscape design and her love of beautiful things

Through the Department of Garden Design, Sachi seeks to create beautiful spaces. In doing so, she has an eye on sustainability, productivity, relaxation and restoration (drawing on the concept of forest bathing*)

Her aesthetic is simple, clean and uncluttered with harmonious colour, balance and unity. Sachi's designs are a contemporary showcase of nature's beauty. They provide interest year around, capturing the seasons at their best. Where she can,  Sachi seeks to incorporate sustainability into her designs, considering materials, biodiversity, habitat and climate.

As a keen gardener, Sachi is pragmatic and matches her designs to their owner's gardening mojo....

She enjoys working with both new and established gardens, exotic and native species

Her aim is to create beautiful spaces,

one garden at a time....

*Forest bathing—basically just being in the presence of trees is proven to lower heart rate and blood pressure, reduce stress hormone production, boost the immune system, and improve overall feelings of wellbeing.
